Citizen science
Citizen science is the involvement of the public in scientific research – whether community-driven research or global investigations
Viruskenner & Citizen science
As a Viruskenner you are citizen scientist. You gather the information needed, you collect data you need to investigate and based on the information and outcome of your data analysis you create tools to solve problems. These tools may be very diverse. From technical tools to communication tools and performing art tools. Viruskenner citizen scientists use the skills they have, in working together and come to solutions. You collaborate with professional scientists.
Viruskenner is coordinating partner in the citizen science project of the Netherlands center for One Health in which young students work together with scientists to collect data about the spread of mosquitos. Mosquitoes are important vectors for the transmission of infectious diseases (e.g. malaria, dengue) worldwide.
